Kailasa - The Abode of Lord Shiva

A high mountain

Cold winds blow

A forbidden world

Silent, constant forever

A majestic mountain

Kissed by a thin cloud

That ambitiously climbs
To meet its peak

An imposing mountain
That echoes silent reverberation

Within itself

One single syllable, complete.

A mountain

Untouched and clean

Far from human madness

Pure and hidden away

A mountain that gives life

As the rainbow drapes it

In it’s many colors

Pure energy, pure nature, pure love

A mountain so silent

The abode of the Lord

A complete world of mine

Simple paradise

A mountain I behold

With my inner eye

My home, with the Lord

Beautiful home of mine

Hi Kavitha, Felix, Aswin…

A beautiful photograph of Mt. Kailasa, sans Lake Mansarovar though, the abode of Shiva-Parvati, the source of holy rivers, Ganga (associated with Lord Rama) & Jamuna (associated with Lord Krishna), the ‘sangam’ or confluence of which, along with the unseen or formless River Sarasvathi, connect birthplace of Adi Shiva (Trimurty) near Kashi, or present day Varanasi (named after rivers, Varuna and Asi)…

The ancient ‘Hindus’ called the present day physically highest peak, known world wide as Mount Everest - named after the Surveyor General of India under British rule – ‘Gauri Shankar’, another name of Shiva… However, in conformity with the philosophy of reflection of ‘modesty’ as the basic criterion of ‘natural selection’ of greatness – as indicated by Brahma being represented by our sun, an average star out of the innumerable bigger ones in size existing in the universe – they apparently realized Kailasa-Mansarovar, although Kailasha a lower peak, as the one responsible for creation and sustenance of plant and animal life in abundance in the Ganga-Jamuna valley...

This phenomenon of natural selection is also indicated in the present day Homo sapiens having their roots, in Homo habilis (the handy man) in East Africa, near Lake Turkana located in the vicinity of Mt. Kenya which has Mt Meru (and Hindus call the human backbone as ‘Merudanda’!) on one of its northeast slope at an altitude of about 5000 feet...

And coincidentally my ancestors belong to Almora in the present Uttaranchal state in the Himalayas, located at 5200 feet altitude, close to China peak-Nainital (6200 feet), another model of Shiva-Parvati (?) And the world (Shiva) has innumerable such models all over its surface to help one located aywhere to visualize Shiva-Parvati, or Earth-Moon :-)

Sorry! Please read 'Meru Town' in place of 'Mt. Meru'...

Great comments uncle, thanks for sharing your knowledge and please also give advice on how to realise the supreme god himself. Lots of people think that the only way to reach lord is sanyasa, i also know that great people like JANAKA maharaja( father of sita in Ramayana) was a king ,yet a hermit. Every body knows about shiva and kailasa and so on. BUt nobody knows the path to reach him. Tell them the right way to reach the god. The only way one can reach the lord is to be the lord himself. Show Kindness to your fellow beings, be nobl and humble, always think of doing good to others etc. Kavitha and you have been doing immense service by prasing the lord and writing about him.

Please do also include articles about the teachings of lord shiva.
For example:
Shiva symbolises simplicity by his form, and he also represents a devoted husband by portraying himself as ardhanareeshwara.

Shiva symbolises that without love, there is no god,"ANBE SIVAM"(in tamil it means love is god shiva himself). LOve doesn't mean only romantic love but also love for fellow human beings.

Shiva represents humility and modesty by portraying himself as a saint begging for alms.

Lord shiva is also everloving and everforgiving. NO lord in hinduism portrays a common man like lord shiva.

In our scriptures, i have read of many tales in which shiva himself makes mistakes(though it is done on purpose) and then he works hard and rectifies them, LIke the boon given to BHasmasura(where shiva grants a boon to bhasmasura and then repents )

Lord shiva also symbolises that man can become god by controlling all his bad qualities.
SO in all , those who worship lord shiva must also follow his pronciples.

Remembe , There is no use just visiting temples and singing praises of the lord, if you follow the lord and do good service to fellow being and think fo good always. YOU need not search the lord , the lord will come to you.
Om NAma Shivaya.

HI Aswin…
As you could perhaps make out from the comments I have offered over a year now, mainly in Kavitha’s blogs - which I came across accidentally (?) apparently because of curiosity - I was perhaps guided by tough circumstances and at the same time occurrences of certain events inexplicable from a ‘scientific’ point of view, at a certain stage, to accept 100% the ‘wisdom’ of the ancients, basically that formless God is ‘numero uno’ or the number one or, in fact, ‘zero’ (without any material form!), the poorest of the poor, materially :-)

I have also realized during my ‘research’, the circumstance urged me to look into the ‘Truth’, that He is the owner of all the physical forms that He holds within His formless arms, purely ‘spiritually’, say like that of an octopus, the sea animal that has eight arms with suckers, that it uses as a tail (like a comet’s) to form a streamline body while it swims, using either of those to grab its food at long distances from it when hungry; and also like a spider that spins the web to trap the moths because of need to maintain the physical form while herself she remains detached, waiting patiently; and so on, as His models (called Asht bhujadhari Ma Durga by the ancients, as a model of the solar system, essences of eight members of which believably lies centred in human body also), or in ‘present’ day terms like an inert pocket or bag that holds hundreds/ crores of Rupees, say, without using a single rupee for its own use :-)

Believing hunger to be the primary cause of human sufferings, Yogis have apparently attempted living without food, on air only, as is reflected from certain sages reportedly developing termite hills over their bodies over years, without moving from their ‘samadhi’ or place of meditation in some secluded place, in order to reach the zero state, the believable state of the formless. They called it merger of ‘Atma with Paramatma’ or the individual ‘soul’ with ‘supreme soul’, which perhaps indicates man as one of the stone/ boulder like parts of earth itself; or even like dust particles, sitting on say PM’s or King's chair, or even at any high pedestals; rolling on earth or flying when moved by an agency, viz. air, motor vehicle, aeroplane etc, going to ‘foreign lands’ - even stuck to human boots, without ticket or need for a passport and Visa, and so on. And man feels proud in doing it, maybe because of His will or design :-)

Shiva the earth was called 'Bholanath' or the simple God by the 'wise' ancients :-)

In my opinion, it is a matter of developing a certain state of mind only - if one can. That is, accepting earth as the creator or Mother of all physical forms without any doubt, instead of taking it for granted, as a ‘non living’ thing :-)
Although at times one calls it ‘Mother Earth’ let us show by our actions also and treat Her as primary or number one Mother who obviously, like any mother, loves all Her creation, like an artist...

The ancients believed earth as a market where only lies are sold, that is the entire creation believably is an illusion or thought within the formless' head (like a spider's web), and therefore they called the universe as Brahmand' or Creator's egg :-) And each form was thus believed as an image of the Creator... Thus each form needs to realise that as the 'Truth'. It is like a game in which the characters of a story are asked to find the author
:-)

If all realise it, perhaps there would be different characters introduced and it would be like a new novel that would mark the beginning of Satyuga :-)

Best Wishes.

incredible as it may seem, i have stumbled upon this blog, after a search for indian blogs, good for you - you feature right there.

i live outside india and would like to share the following things with you.

being outside the country helps one in understanding other people, their ways of life, other religions so on and so forth, it also give you an opportunity to look at india from outside, which lets you have an unbiased view on the way things are today, in india and the rest of the world.

i now completely understand why so many people want to come to india, some as tourists, some searching for their inner selves(if theres anything like that), others for whatever reason, but we as indian, even though we have this rich heritage culture brouhaha on us for such a long time, as individuals and as a race for thousands of years are extremely intolerant towards the same cultures and sub cultures that emenated out of our country.

no religion ever told its people to hate other religions and people following those religions, amazing as it may be, if every one of us is said to be following what our respective religion says, then trivial things like intercaste marriages should be as easy as buying a softdrink from a shop, in reality is it so, you bet not, this is just a small example, so many other things are there.

my point is(yes i am finally getting there, thank you for being patient till here)religion or not, gods being there or not, we as human beings have started what is to be a downward spiral from here, there are hindus, muslims, jews, christians, buddhists, parsis, buddhists and so on, none of them have the ability to co-exist with the other, which i figure is the very basis of us being as humans bestowed with the sixth sense, have lost, since we have delved far too deep in to our respective religions for meanings, in an attempt to understand(read as mis interpret) what the religion/culture actually said. such depth is unneccessary, but it has gone on for far too long for anything to change now.

i am a hindu, and hate it when other hindus tell me that muslims being in minority should all be driven to pakistan as they do not belong in india, this from an educated individual with a stable mind, and an indian whose president is a muslim, brilliant i told myself and i ask, whatmakes these people think that they belong to india, all in the name of religion, and add to this the amazing levels of hypocrisy that is there in all of us today, what is to muslims in india is to jews in the middle east, to the catholics in ireland and to the sunnis in iraq.

religions are there for people to have a choice to follow what they choose to and believe in, not for anyone else to decide but ourselves.

i want young able minds to think and react responsibly, if we can change the way we think, so will the people amongst us, and the people to come.

all in all is all we are, apologies if i have digressed, its just an opinion, as they say opinions, everyone has them.

shiva has a wonderful representation in our mythology, my personal favourite is the marundeeshwarar temple in tiruvanmiyur, in chennai(south india). i grew up there and this used to be my playground, i remember my grandmother telling me that it is a very old temple, also close by was a valmiki temple if i am corret, another extremely old one apparently, i wouldnt know, kavitha, you seem to be from chennai, would appreciate if you can throw some light on this.

thank you all for the opportunity

Hi joshi uncle, thanks for the comments again. Please do continue giving good advice.

Hi Kavitha, i would be happy if you could throw some loght on the history of the Marundheeswarar temple in Thiruvanmiyur chennai. Lord shiva here in this temple is known for curing many diseases, Me and seshadri would be happyif you could write about marundeeswarar. Bye

Hi Aswin, Seshadari, and all others who interest themselves in 'Hindu' philosophy...

I would like to draw your attention to a Heavenly Body, called Moon or Indu (in Sanskrit) the basic object, or a satellite of the third planet from Sun called Earth (after Mercury and Venus) or the word 'Indu' (Indira Gandhi's pet name) that perhaps led to a highly advanced civilization inhabiting this geographical region to be called 'Hindu' because they perhaps used the lunar cycle to determine all their religious functions even today traditionally. And the civilization thaat was highly advanced in Astronomy as Indus valley Civilization :-)

And that the word 'lunatic' also evolved from it, for one appears to be that if he talks of God today :-)

Hi all, again...

'India' was once known for its 'tolerance', a rare commodity today as reflected in'road rage' in Metros... History records how Indians although fought the 'aggressors' initially, but, if they were proved weaker, they accepted them, the stronger of the two (maybe because of helplessness or because of the belief, "Atithi devo bhava", as a consolation, or following the 'scientific' law, stated by Le Chatelier to the effect, "A system in equilibrium initially opposes the introduction of a new member till the system comes to equilibrium again."

'We' accepted all and sundry even when they came in as guests or traders, perhaps because we had a vast land resource to accommodate them... The same phenomenon can perhaps be seen in the recent past when Assam welcomed Bangladeshis, Hindus or muslims, initially to settle there. For they got cheaper labour and also got their marshy land and jungles cleared for settling them there, which reduced the incidence of malaria :-) The resistence came in because of the politics of 'vote bank' and the Bangladeshis doig materially better than the originals within a short period because of hard work. Perhaps a similar phenomenon with Indians doing better in the USA in IT, and now attracted to 'it', ehy hadn't thought of when in India :-)

Immediately after Political Independence, India busied itself with executing the dream of Nehru (perhaps a reflection of formless' dream!) - of self sufficiency in food through artificial irrigation, with big dams and canals, because of incidence of recurrent famines during British rule, and also the dream of 'Panchsheel' for peaceful co-existence with neighbours, that got shattered when China attacked india, followed by attack by Pakistan over Kashmir, which thankfully was repulsed during Lal Bahadur Shastri's premiership... Indira Gandhi at some stage then thought of checking India's population growth, which was increasing by leaps and bounds and was thus becoming a headache for the managers, by use of force, and failed miserably...

To cut the story short, now we have a PM with physical features similar to that of Shiva of our mythology. Also, as our earth hides its riches in her bowels, he too is an 'expert' in money matters, but a 'bholanath' in politics... For that aspect, he has Sonia Gandhi guarding him, like Shiva's serpent around His neck :-)

And, apparently we are doing good in money matters, 'the glitter of gold', which even Lord Rama couldn't resist :-)

Hindu philosophy also talks of fall of 'spiritual values' towards the end of a Yuga, as a 'natural phenomenon' :-)

May God bless 'India'!

Hi all…
Let’s have a glimpse of ‘Modern Indian History’ in a ‘flash back’…
The British ruled over ‘India’, ‘the jewel in its crown’, for long (starting from the East India Company establishing its
Trading centre in Surat in 1612) besides many other ‘colonies’ such that ‘sun didn’t set over British Empire’ for long – they ‘made hay while the sun continued to shine’ over them :-)

‘Time’, however, eventually made them return home westwards, like as if transporting the models of sun along with the one and only source of light…

(Everyone perhaps knows that when sun sets at a place, it becomes dark over there) … The land located in the West then got highlighted, it experienced brighter days as one sees today with USA apparently becoming the ‘world leader’ (after the collapse of USSR in Euro-Asia)… but, with the assistance of knowledge gained by the east that had remained in dark for years - as one in sleep receives energy without making any extra efforts for it… However, it being (material) ‘west’, it remains opposite of (spiritual) ‘east’ of yesteryears, as ‘two sides of the same coin’…

‘Google earth’ takes me straight to the USA. I set the compass properly and then make the globe move northwards, cross the neutral region of the Arctic, pass over huge land mass of Euro-Asia to finally reach India, inverted (like doing ‘shirshashan’, a Yogic exercise :-) I then need to move it 360 degrees to be able to read details of physical ‘India’ - a waste of time from my point of view :-)

Ancient Hindus had realized real time and space, for the zero or formless Creator, to be zero, who - perhaps to reach at His possible origin or His Mother - took the trouble, [please visualize it compared to your apparent efforts and frustrations resulting from small failures even - expressed by ancients, ‘because of lack of (integrated) knowledge’], of creating a variety of innumerable instruments, finally to reach man, (via earth as His permanent model within the solar system - within our galaxy), a variety of His own images, (near zero to near infinity), that worked on an unending or eternal cycle of ‘Apparent time’]…

One perhaps needs to orient oneself (like the magnetic compass) to find where one believably lies in this tangent theta-like curve to connect with ‘self’ or His mother (apparently male or female, all believably carrying the unborn at the ‘mooladhar’, and thus models of the ‘Ardhanarishwar’ or both male and female Shiva, a physical model of the formless Vishnu of the mythology) with FAITH while appreciating the trouble He had taken [try entering the mind of Lord Rama, say, as the model of sun in the ‘Treta yuga’... ‘Famous astronomer’, Stephen Hawking expressed the desire to enter the 'mind of God' a few years ago when he was in India (God being formless and detached, one would perhaps, like Buddha end up calling oneself 'a bubble’, as a model of the universal void. One could otherwise attempt reaching ‘Krishna’s, i.e., the mind of His incarnation in Dwaper Yuga, as Yogis appear to have done in the 'past' :-]

At first when I read the poetry I couldn't quite put it in place. Then I tried to read phrase by phrase like it is written. Slowly it dawned and looked like a song that looms somewhere high above the clouds. And then a vivid description appears in front of my eyes. One breathtaking moment. One life lived glorious. If I may quote "That echoes silent reveberation. Within itself. One single Syllable, complete" and so I heard "Om".

Kind of feel why it is called an Abode.

Hi Uncle, K, Aswin & all,
Welcome Sheshadri :)

Thank you Uncle,
As usual, you have laid a carpet of wisdom for us. Your prespective never seems to be anything lesser than Impressively Interesting.

Sheshadri,
It's an insight to see the eyes of another man. I havent been out of India but sure am now affirmed of how it would look from the outside.

Aswin,
Anbe Sivam, the very principle that Christianity (, Buddhisim and the rest) resides on. Unfortunately a made-over diversity clogs the minds in the form of "Different Religions".

Hi Uncle, K,
Uncle once again. About that "Road Rage" and lack of tolerance... There are some interesting things I'd like to tell you.

In earlier times, we had no electricity and the lights were dimmed during the period of "rest". And then "the Lunar" was the only source of light which would disrupt the "rest". (I so hear that a No Moon night is even more special for Shiva, I could use your clarification here K) leading to Lunacy- mental disorder.
But since the advent of electric lights. The pristine darkness of the Night that Nature & the System has so perfectionally added, is no more the same. Our Natural lights are lost from our eyes for ever.

Anyways, This disrupts the minds cycle resulting in neurotransmitters that awaken you. Pretty much without our knowledge we would be having a sort of "coffee-driven-mentally-awaken-nights" from our births. Thus we see psychological problems and lack of patience a searing increase.

India was the last among Learned Civilizations to take up Electricity. When the rest of the world arrived they saw Indians with such relaxed states and clarity of mind. And so the Lack of Tolerance, Patience and henceforth we are now what we are.

I could go on. But perhaps we could talk at a later time :)

Hi Felix…
I said earlier also that I just surrendered in to Krishna, as I read suggested by the ancients in Gita, for at one stage logically I found that all through one’s life man is apparently surrendering to relatively weaker some one or the other - even to his own basic desires - and resists surrender in to God alone, believably the omnipotent, like a ‘penny wise and pound foolish’ person!

With the change in attitude, despite outward pressures, I found a noticeable change. I found communication, say, even in a flag hoisting ceremony: I found the flag telling me how it was just like me – a slave, tied with strings to a mast (Symbol of strength - an extension of earth itself) even when it was flying high above the ground (like our sun in the sky - tied to earth with unseen strings)! Originally it was close to Shiva, the earth, tied up like a prisoner, but holding essence of the rose petals imbibed in its fibers (both born out of earth itself), like high moral values of a simple man – which the air stole away from it when it was fluttering with pride on reaching the sky… only to wrap itself up with the mast, like a man prostrate in front of Shiva’s idol in search of ‘Truth’ when air stopped blowing... And so on :-)

I wonder why others can't see what I see, and of course sometimes doubt who is right - the majority or the apparently 'eccentric' I? History, fortunately, has similarly eccentric appearing characters in the past also that encourages me :-)

Hi Felix…
Let us play like a child with Om, or oM, small letter ‘o’ written above capital ‘M’…

o
M

One could perhaps visualize with the above written letters many images through the eyes of one or different persons. For example, I can suggest some: ‘o’ represents our sun (‘fire’, or angry Brahma, being cut away or separated from the ‘Trimurthy’ by Vishnu) in the ‘sky’, and ‘M’ represents a valley on our ‘earth’, which would carry ‘water’ when it rains, its level varying from zero to a maximum depending on the weather conditions, and ‘air’, or wind blowing through the valley, with different intensities – still or with the speed of a hurricane - from time to time…

An artist could add trees, birds, huts, and so on to make it appear livelier…

Now, sun is also called Aditi, or number one and ‘o’ (rather its unseen or formless centre) also represents zero! Thus a zero, besides zero, can also represent number one! And, if ‘o’ is enlarged to capital ‘O’, it could represent infinity (say, the infinite void of the universe)! (Thus one finds mathematicians today foxed when dealing with zero, the mysterious creator!)

And, in the night, the very same ‘o’ could represent the cool, mysterious, and beautiful, though sometimes maddening, Moon, (Parvathi, when separated from Ganesha or Mars for long, waiting for Satyuga or the right time)!

One could also see these two letters as representing the figure of a person lying down, with one's legs folded at the knee level!

And for pronouncing ‘o’, one needs to purse one’s lips and form letter ‘o’ or zero the unending source of energy. And when the sound comes out, it could carry on eternally - only if one had unlimited breath, like the unborn believably had when He used 'Brahmanad' or 'Big Bang' for creation of physical forms in the universe...

The terrestrial, being permitted a limited capacity of holding the breath in one’s lungs, as well as limited number of breaths on earth, or the ‘Mrityulok’, where death is inevitable, therefore, is obliged to bring his lips together to pronounce ‘M’ (close to the name given to 'Yam', the demi-god concerned :-)

Anonymous said...

Hi again, Felix...

I wrote, “One could also see these two letters as representing the figure of a person lying down, with one's legs folded at the knee level!”

On review I noticed that the letters, as printed in the comment above, could perhaps be imagined as a person sitting or standing on the ground. Therefore, it seems that a correction was needed…

One would perhaps need to visualize also the associated time - either sunrise, needing just a small arc of ‘o’ to be printed, joining the two arms of ‘V’ of the letter ’M’ (to represent a person still to get out of bed) or after sunset, with moon shining in the sky - with the additional arc as stated above - and she is preparing to go to sleep :-)

[The ancients used two zeroes (called ‘conception vessel’ and ‘Governing vessel’ by acupuncturists to represent the human body from the tail-bone end to the head) that formed the numeral 8! And, the numeral 8, written horizontally, is used by mathematicians to symbolically represent infinity! ‘Hindus’ graphically represented ‘anant’ or infinity through reclining Vishnu, Hanuman, Buddha, and so on :-]

Hi Felix…

Today I had the pleasure of sharing a few hours with my five-year-old grandson when the mother and child visited me - that I want to share with you too...

During his last visit, he had given me the certificate of being 'the best artist in the world'!

He came in with a rose bouquet in his hand, which he had made his mother to buy because he didn’t want to visit me empty handed! And, he had brought with him two story books on Cinderella...

He finds his mothers 'the most beautiful woman in the world'! Soon I was asked to make copies of sketches of beautiful women that had appeared in those - thirteen in all - some repeated for he didn't find them up to the mark, including one of a fairy made from imagination. All these without allowing me to rest in between, while he enjoyed Coca Cola, and some snacks!

He, himself drew just one - a mountain with a flag at its summit, water flowing at its base with a few fishes swimming in it. In the sky there were a few clouds and sun in the middle, complete with short lines representing sunrays, and dots representing eyes and mouth!

On seeing the flag at a glance in the initial stage, I had asked if it was a temple. He said, “NO! It is a mountain!”

Only later I saw the details described above… I wondered whether it was a coincidence that he too indicated the ‘panchabhoota’, sun (‘fire’) and clouds (‘water’ in gaseous form) in the ‘sky’ and in the sea (in liquid form). A flag flying at the top, indicating the direction of the ‘air’, and of course earth as well as the Formless represented by a high mountain peak or Shivalinga:-)

Hi Albert...

I liked the story about 'realization, or the interpretation of the son'.

Maybe, had the story been related with that of Siddhartha's experiences of human sufferings that led to his renunciation, leading to establishment of Buddhism - when Vedic Era had come to its end - it could move the reader much more :-)

Relative appearance of letters 'O' and 'm', in 'Om', instead of 'oM' that I had presented earlier, also could be seen to communicate similar thought, i.e., the unending or infinite 'O' looking much bigger than 'm' the mountain peaks, but preferring instead to remain unborn or 'o' to give a feeling of greatness to 'M'... the basic communication in 'Hindu Philosophy'. What is more important is for 'M' to ever remain conscious of the 'Absolute Truth' or 'o', i.e., 'zero' the unborn who alone exists as the Omnipotent and Omnipresent, and that all physical forms are transient in nature :-)

Best wishes.

Hi all, particularly the 'modern astronomers' residing in India, who are perhaps afraid to be seen as 'primitive' through the eyes of the 'west', and therefore cannot see beyond the people who are apparently following the ancients with 'blind faith'...

It appears from the ‘Hindu’ mythological stories that in all Yugas, the formless creator, the believable 'outer fabric of the balloon like universe', is represented by the exterior crust of our Earth, through models, viz. Kailasa/ Shivlinga, as reflected in the saying, “Satyam Shivam Sunderam.”

Fully developed Earth appears to be associated with the neutral colour, Green, the central one in the seven colours of the visible spectrum that invariably appear in a rainbow, from Blue to Red and which together make the white colour… (It has Yellow colour attached to it on one side and Blue on the other, these two colours when mixed together make green colour)…

Shiva the Bholanath, appears to see His mother’s reflection or form different in different era: in Satyuga, the age of reaching 'perfection', it appears as Moon, associated with colour Yellow placed on the highest pedestal...

In Treatayuga, Venus (associated with colour Blue, the colour of the sky, and proud Kartikeya’s peacock too).

In Dwaperyuga, Sun (associated with white colour, the hottest).

In Kaliyuga, i.e., the age of start of development with the objective of attaining perfection, starting from zero or the molten magma or core of earth at the very beginning of the Yuga, the group of Asteroids or the ‘specialists’ in different fields of activity, as the original part or tail of Mars (associated with colour red, the colour of the embers before the fire gets fully blown up to white with the help of air – having started from cold black coals)…

[The reverse order indicates the development from nothing material, only pure energy or the 'spirit' or essence of the dark space (Krishna the Yogiraj, the centre of our galaxy :-]

Hi Uncle,
Very Interesting way you connect the modern typography of English with the deepest truth of all, "Om".

I have noticed that as children we always include all the "Panchaboothas" in any part, whether knowingly or unknowingly. A drawing or paiting would never miss out that little fire or that stream of water or that wind blowing leaf/tree and of course the towering chunk of earth.

Somehow later we concentrate on a single or two elements mostly based on our moods.

Hi Felix…

The phenomenon is called as ‘slavery of time’ - in the ‘present’. The ancients, in the ‘past’ called it the effect of ‘kalchakra’ or the ‘grinding in the wheel of time’…

The soul is supposed to be a ‘prisoner’ of the body ('Krishna' - like 'Black Hole' - being born under 'confinement', or in a prison in Mathura!). And, the body a 'prisoner' of the past ‘karma’ or the variety of actions performed in the past - while transforming from formless to micro-organism and finally to human form - the soul believably having had to perform through 8.4 million different ‘animal’ forms till it acquired the perfect form of human being, as a part of the formless’ design using the essences of the members of the solar system, as an essence of our galaxy that is an essence of the universe, for, in reality, He alone exists :-)

Thus all forms believably are His Own, reflecting the various facets or stages of advancement with respect to the ‘apparent time’…

The universe thus could be visualized (by His past images or 'ghosts' in human forms) as a grand museum or universal void - comprising innumerable smaller museums or galaxies - that exhibits ‘time’ and ‘space’ or ‘temporal and spatial’ location reflected through the concerned specimen, or the entire infinite space through different specimens as seen by the lone 'visitor', i.e., Himself through apparent different eyes (suffering from shortcomings that result in optical illusion, from time to time:-)

Thus ‘modern’ is a relative term, for ‘future’ of the ‘past’ is also ‘past’ – like you apparently 'rewind' or 'fast forward' a recorded tape/ film shot in the past :-)

The 'siddhas' or the Yogis used to sit in 'siddhasan', or 'padmasan' or 'lotus pose' with thumb touching the index finger... If one is observant, not suffering from 'maya' or illusion, one could notice that 'zero' or letter 'O' gets formed... Now, in this pose, if one points the three fingers earth or downwards, one would read the letter 'M' formed by those. Both together can be read as 'oM'... Homo sapiens form hasn't undergone change through passage of time. Thus oM is reflected from time immemorial (in the words of Hindus, it is 'The Truth' for it doeesn't change with time) - in a language that 'we' understand as English :-)

Seen with reference to the truth, 'I' have indicated in the earlier comment, that apparent time is moving from the 'advanced stage to imperfect stage. Thus English, is the oldest language - when the Formless souls had just acquired human forms at the peak of the Kaliyuga as the most evolved during that period out of innumerable ones :-) And overall evolutionary processes perhaps saw Sanskrit as the most evolved during Vedic era that reflected the most advanced stage...

However, as anyone, as per the 'wise', can believably reach the 'Truth' or essence of the galaxy/ solar system, i.e., centre of galaxy or planet Mars, as the essence of the universe - 'Krishna'/Ganesha, Hanuman, and so on, language is only is a medium for communication to others...with more communication losses with the passage of time through different eras :-)

Hi Felix, and all others...

Continuuing the thought about colours, and interpretation of 'Krishna's Holi', through 'my mind's (eccentric) eye' as I recently wrote to a friend on the particular occasion (on a full moon day, as it is again today on the 'Baisakhi' or 'new year day'
:-)...

"...I am happy to see Nature's Holi only - the rainbow, the multi-coloured flowers amidst green leaves, the black faces of Africans, yellow faces of Chinese and Japanese, red faces of Americans and so on - all such colours reflected in Indian faces too, in different regions!! Could colours used by humans match the ones used by Nature?"

kavitha,

nice poem.

joshi, you are trying to equate om with some typography in english.

are you serious? Om is something that takes a lifetime to understand. even among the gods, only muruga is supposed to have fully understood the meaning of the word Om.

but good to see u try.

felix (is that your real name?),

no offence, but never heard that name even here. nice name, remembering calvin, garfield, etc.! hahaha

buddhism is its original form is a very very revolutionary concept.

Hi Mayur

Welcome aboard!

The syllable Om belongs to a science beyond our understanding and so does the world of typography.

Typography in its unadultrated form is an abstract science/ art which when meditated upon (and it takes a lifetime for this) will result in a high form of maturity just like OM. One is form and the other is sound.

When you cross a level with any science, be it understanding the abstract sound of OM or understanding the abstract form of Typography you reach of pinnacle of aesthetics where its worship and music and no longer part of regular life...

if typography can deiver the same sublime feeling as OM it ideally should not be dismissed.

Hi Mayur, Kavitha, Felix, Aswin, Sheshadari, Revathi, and others…

That is the beauty of ‘Hindu Philosophy’ that Kavitha has also expressed, i.e., the realization that basically all human beings are equal and it is ‘Maya’ or illusion that doesn’t allow all ‘images’ of the Nirakar or formless Creator to reach the ‘Truth’, unless one surrenders in to Him… Otherwise, it is like ‘divide and rule’ - used as a cliché these days - in ‘Nature’, human being afraid to accept the universe (Brahmand) to be a dream or thought within the head of a Formless, and yet Supreme Being, also called Supreme knowledge and so on - because of ‘slavery of time’, i.e., confusion on account of illusory existence of innumerable paths to reach Him or the 'Absolute Truth'...

Shri Mayur could perhaps understand better had he attempted to ‘enter my head’ (which I call as ‘God’s garbage dump’, and myself a ‘rag picker’) through comments or some thoughts so picked up from the said ‘garbage dump’ and offered mainly in Kavitha’s blog over a period of more than a year, instead of just picking up ‘typography’, an art which could perhaps have been better explained in detail by an ‘expert’ - as one such Mr. Anonymous had once offered to do at some stage…

I am just a ‘generalist’ in these matters who is attempting to collect the integrated ‘essence’, like a honey-bee does from different flowers, as a hint apparently left by the Creator for human beings, and also apparently attempted by ‘Siddhas’ in the past for deriving eternal bliss :-)

Only 'Time' can help reach Him - when it is ripe :-)

Best Wishes...

Hi Joshi Uncle

Very aptly put, one Mr Anonymous didnt come back with his master piece. Guess he forgot...

Your mind is a whirlpool of thought and knowledge, which will take special talent over a long period of time to unearth and get clarity on its real meaning/ value/ power.

Thank god, my blog is a store house of that knowledge, that has crystalized in this way... i dont understand some of it, its too evolved.. but i believe at a later date..as i grow older, i will come to understand it...

It shall be preserved for posterity. I shall take special trouble to do so.

Hi Kavitha, …

You are right. It is like suppose I am to visit Chennai, a city I am not familiar with although I have visited it a few times and roamed about some of its streets in company of friends/ relatives who are conversant with the place…

Now, this time, suppose I am to visit it and want to come to your place straight from the station/ airport… I will take directions from you, which appear simple to you, and with the important roads and landmarks indicated by you, I would try to direct the taxi driver. But, I might still get lost - maybe for some time only - because I might find some landmark, you had indicated, to exist at many places, and you hadn’t anticipated that! And, when I finally do manage to reach your place, then only both you and I would come to know where I had gone wrong!

However, safest would be that I am received by one of your assistants to guide me smoothly. And, the best if you come down personally to receive me!

In Gita 'Krishna' says that once someone surrenders in Him, He would personally hold his finger and lead him him to Himself! Although conditional, can there be an offer better than that? :-)

Hi Kavitha, continuing… To answer the question: Why Krishna is called Yogiraj? I find the centre of galaxy as the right Heavenly Body (HB), for as per the ‘present’ day ‘astrophysicists’ it believably holds a ‘Black Hole’ at its centre (a HB having super gravity that holds within it innumerable other HBs, viz. stars and planets etc). And, the ‘Hindus’ called it, in Sanskrit, ‘Krishna’ meaning ‘black’ - whose model in human form is reported in the mythology to have appeared in Dwaperyuga :-)
Our galaxy reportedly is a mature one out of innumerable other such HBs, of various shapes and sizes, that fill the void of the universe, i.e, the dark space… Thus a galaxy can be visualized as a link between stars/ planets including any life forms on it, and the void, whose model each of us believably is, through the essences of most evolved planets…

Hi Kavitha...

I give below 'my' simplified interpretation of the order of Heavenly Bodies, with planet Jupiter, Adi Shiva as the model of the formless creator, at the head and essence locations at different 'chakras' or 'locks' modified in human form:

Jupiter ('Trimurty' Shiva)
Asteroids (Ganesha's 'vehicle')
Mars (Ganesha)
**************************
Ganesha's head - Cut line
**************************
MOON [Yellow at Sahas(t)ra(dha)ra]
Earth (Green at Ajna - Shiva's eye)
Venus (Blue at Vishuddhi - throat)
Mercury (Ultra violet - chest)
SUN (White - solar plexus -
separating Rahu and Ketu)
*****************************
Jupiter (Infra red - navel)
Asteroids (Red - below navel)
Mars (Orange - Mooladhar)

Yogic exercises for activation of 'Kundalini' [releasing energy of formless (zero) locked up at the base] for reaching 'supreme knowledge', or realization of 'Truth' involves making 'essence of Mars' to rise to meet the 'essence of Moon' in the head, or at 'sahasrara chakra'...

Perhaps the graphical representation would help visualize better...

Hi Kavitha, a few words to explain the above...

There are subtle hints in the Hindu mythological stories - maybe many versions - that can help one to reach the above, only by ‘reading between the lines’…

I cite a few only: Ganesha is Parvati’s son, ‘made from dirt sticking to Her body’, which can be read differently through different eyes. The straight forward could be that all forms are made from ‘earth’, as communicated by, “From dust to dust and ashes to ashes.”… Another could interpret Ganesha as an illicit son of Parvati! For, the story doesn’t call him Shiva’s son, although Kartikeya (Venus) is accepted as son of both Shiva-Parvati (Earth-Moon)!

Then comes the part of Saturn (the planet that has beautiful rings!) cutting Ganesha's head when he visited Parvati to see the new born baby :-)

Similarly, in the story about ‘churning of the milky ocean’ under the supervision of Guru Brihaspati or Jupiter, Vishnu, with Mohini form (Sun) distributing elixir (life-giving sunrays), cuts demon Rahu’s head to result in two separate live bodies - because Rahu too had taken the elixir that was meant to give permanency to selfless people or devtas (Solar system) by deception, i.e, Rahu (Mercury, the closest planet to Sun) and Ketu (transformed Jupiter)...

Confirmation of this is found in the stories related to sun-like ‘expert archers’, Rama (in Tretayuga) having Gurus, Vashisht & Vishwamitra and Arjuna (in Dwaperyuga) having Vidura and Dronacharya – one for advise on mundane matters and the other for spiritual matters :-)

And, Ganesha fights Shiva’s army assisted both by energy received from Ma Kali (Sati located in ‘the heart of Shiva’ or molten magma in the core of earth, reflected through the red tongue of fire out of a volcano when it erupts and the lava turns black or kali on cooling over the surface of earth or ‘Shiva’s chest’) and Ma Gauri or Moon, the superior most heavenly body, shown graphically on Shiva’s forehead :-)

Anonymous said...

Hi, again...

Although, I have indicated the 'churning of the milky ocean' at many instances earlier, it is just to add to my mention in my previous comment, "... Vishnu, with Mohini form (Sun) distributing elixir (life-giving sunrays)... etc," the resulting 'water cycle' or 'dance of one of Shiva's (Earth's) companion bhoota' as another 'life giving' agency to us terrestrials, for 'rain water (Krishna) is life' for sustenance of all 'life forms' on earth, although ocean water (Vishnu) also sustains innumerable life forms in the initial stage of development, fish being considered as the 'first avatar' of Vishnu...

Anonymous said...

Continuing...

Now, fish and red colour (of Ma Kali’s tongue) obviously links these features primarily to Bengal, and east, the direction from which sun (Brahma/ Rama/ Arjuna etc as models) rises…

The ancients related West with iron - having relatively greater strength, [Invaders fromm west easily defeated Aryans because their swords were made of iron while the Aryans used bronze swords, relatively a softer alloy of copper (red) and tin (white)] - and blue colour, like that of the’sky’ (Krishna representing the formless is also referred as ‘Neelambar’ (wearing blue dress and is also shown to have a peacock feather in His crown) and also 'Peetamber' (wearing yellow dress also), related with Moon also…

And, North was related with Guru or Moon and yellow colour, and, south with sun and white colour…

With this order determining correlation between control planet vis-à-vis the Cardinal directions, and colours, North-west, thus is controlled by earth and green colour associated with it. (Emerald, a green gemstone, is used from antiquity in India, they were earlier found in the Aravali range in Rajasthan)... Similarly, sun (believably a black bodied heavenly body, and a source of white light) in the south could be associated with ultra-violet, (attached to blue in the west), i.e., south-west and planet Mercury that runs with ‘fire in its mouth’, and gemstone Hessonite or Gomedak related with it... And, south-east controlled by planet Jupiter, and infra-red (attached to red in the east). Cat’s eye, the gemstone for it, is found in South India…

In stead of the traditional horoscop, I have worked out tentative cycles of certain willing individuals (for whom particular of births, with time in IST, were available) and also gemstones needed for them to improve their efficiency…

To verify the ‘illusion' part of the belief, I applied gemstones I felt needed on their respective photographs at suitable locations… Perceptible effects were noticed on their body irrespective of their location on any part of the globe!

This study is constantly under refinement based on feedback from them…

Hi Kavitha and others, again...

The ancients appear to have seen 'Krishna' present in all colours :-) They saw Him, as 'Kali', in Red, the apparent 'destroyer' of 'life' as lava in its wake destroys every form of it... to cool down after coming in contact with earth, air, and water and turn black...to regenerate the top-soil for better better agricultural produce...in the interest of the 'future' generations :-)

They saw Him in Blue (Neelamber) that is attached to the Ultra violet rays that partially find entry into earth's atmosphere, as in the rich and mighty mythological characters, viz., Kartikeya, Ravana, Duryodhana, and so on (I censored the thought of George Bush that popped up for a second, like ads in the Internet in the 'present' :-)

They saw Him in Yellow (Peetamber) as in the Holy Mothers, , the 'oceans of love', viz., Parvati, Sita, Draupadi, whom He saved personally from being disrobed in public, as He was physically present in Dwaperyuga, and so on...

They saw Him even in White (apparently its opposite, in appearance), in mythological characters, viz., the black bodied Sun or Narayana as an incarnation of Vishnu, the dark space, who cut the body of Sati being carried by Lord Shiva on His shoulder after she had died in the 'sacred fire' arranged by Her father, King Daksha Prajapati, to which he didn't invite Shiva (on the 'mouth' of the crater, there apparently the outer crust of earth is missing!); Black bodied Lord Rama, Arjuna, the individual reportedly attached to Krishna from the very beginning, but failing to recall it because of the effect of time with the passage of time, and so on
:-)

I had forgotten to indicate, Orange (formed with Red and Yellow)that represents Northeast as the direction controlled by it through the planet Mars, the 'Mooladhar' or its essence concentrated at the base of the human body, the 'link' with the near formless centre of our galaxy (Krishna), which itself is the essence of the formless void of the universe, represented through character, viz., Ganesha (the ''link' to Riddhi, or material, and Siddhi, or supreme knowledge)/ Hanuman/ Bhima, and so on, and in the Kaliyuga many apparent characters competing for that status, viz., Buddha, Mahavira, Jesus Christ, Prophet Mohammed, Guru Nanak, Mira Bai...an unending list of names, including Jiddu Krishnamurty (as suggested by an anonymous reader)... Perhaps time only will announce, "And, the winner is...
:-)
