The state of Samadhi is one of mystery and intrigue, a state of sublime, a state of constant bliss, commonly known as Nirvana.
Tantra 7 of the Thirumantiram composed by the great Tamil poet Thirumular contains 8 verses 1902 to 1909 that describe what happens when success is achieved in Yoga Samadhi as well as its failures and downfalls. These verses explain why a Jnani’s body is buried and not cremated as well as the ritualistic way in which it needs to be done.
As against common belief that Hindus cremate their dead, there are certain exceptions to the rule. When a Siddhar* fails to achieve Samadhi, he is reborn into this world and continues to worship Lord Shiva from where he had last left off. In the new life that he is granted, he has the complete potential to reach Siddhahood and attains Shiva Yoga, rising into the realm of celestials. When an aspirant goes into Mauna Samadhi he is neither reborn and nor does he attain Jiva Mukta, he is in constant union with the Lord. This is a state of pure consciousness where the body dies but the Siddhar* is still conscious and alive and has completely merged with the Lord. Such a jnani though limited within his human walls during his life time will exude the consciousness that is one with the all pervasive Lord Shiva.
A jnani’s body is never consigned to the flames of a funeral pyre; they say it challenges nature and brings about catastrophic changes to the land where he belonged resulting in disease and famine. Jnani’s are supposed to be buried as per the rules in the Agamic scriptures.
The jnani or Siddhar* is buried in an underground sepulcher which should be located in a riverbed, wooded grove, dense forest or a high mountain valley. The measurements of the sepulcher should be 5 by 5 feet and at a depth of 9 feet. To prepare this chamber, five precious metals and nine rare gems need to be spread within the cave on top of which the seat needs to be placed. Kusha grass is scattered and white holy ash is spread all over the chamber. Further to this turmeric powder in yellow gold mixed with incense is spread over the ash laden grass bed. The cave is square shaped inside and is further covered with garlands of flowers, sandal, musk, and diverse unguents and sprinkled with rose water. The ritual oil lamp is now lit within the cave with complete devotion towards the deceased Siddhar* (jnani). The white holy ash acts as a protective covering around the body. The body is now placed in the appropriate asana and the cave is filled with earth. The Siddhar’s* sandals, earrings and an image with his/her face and eyes decked in suitable clothing are placed over this cave along with rice food and tender coconut. White holy ash is again poured along with powdered incense as well as flowers and vilva leaves. Holy water is sprinkled over this sacred burial chamber and a platform of 3 feet is raised above it. Atop this platform a sapling of a peepal tree is planted or a Shiva Linga is installed. The Sannadhi faces North or East and 16 rituals are performed with complete devotion.
Few Samadhis speak volumes with this approach towards the deceased. Among many Samadhis that dot the Indian countryside some come with excessive divinity, around which the power and magnetic field continues to be strong.
Adi Shankaracharya’s Samadhi, Kedarnath
Samadhi of Siddhar Bogar, Murugan temple at Palani
The small shrine of Adi Shankaracharya at Kedarnath speaks of a Samadhi, at the same place where Adi Shankaracharya is believed to have spent his last days. The cave temple of Siddhar* Bogar, who went into Samadhi in the early part of the Kali Yuga in about 3000 B.C. is even older than that of Adi Shankaracharya. Both Samadhis are found at high altitudes and both have a representation of the Siddhar* and a Shiva Linga installed at the surface. While Adi Shankaracharya’s is a humble version, that of Siddhar* Bogar is a lot more flamboyant. Surrounded by the Nava Durga as well as Sri Bhvaneshwari, and hosting a unique sacred emerald Lingas (Maragada Lingam), not to be found anywhere else in the world along with a right mouthed conch shell, is the self made Samadhi of Siddhar* Bogar, under the main shrine of (Dandapani vigraha) in the Muruga temple at Palani. Interestingly Siddhar* Bogar and Adi Shankaracharya are believed to have traversed the world through air, while the former spread the science of medicine and aviation all the way in China as described in the Saptakanda, the latter went back to his mother during her last moments of life.
The ancient sites of Sanchi, Bharut, Sarnath and Vaishali contain the ash relics of Buddha embedded within a wooden box, with 9 precious stones and earrings of the Bodhisatva. It appears that a square pit was dug here too within the stupa at Vaishali to place these relics and covered with earth, capped by a stupa on top. The gateways depict the life of the Bodhisatva in sculptural representations across their panels.
The sacredness of these shrines leaves us breathless and makes us feel small and not just incompetent but wasteful in our approach for a more perfect life. The question now is “What is perfect living?”

*A person who has acquired all the 8 Siddhis during his lifetime is called a Siddhar. Typically Siddhars belonged to the previous yugas including the beginning of the Kaliyuga and lived approximately for a minimum of 125 to 300 years and a maximum that covered a yuga

Kavitha,The narration reminds me of the most famous & revered Samadhi of Maharashtra The samadhi of Saint Dnyaneshwar at Alandi. The speciality of this samadhi is that it is a "Sanjivan" samadhi. The saint was a great yogi.He had decided himself on the exact timing of the samadhi & he walked into the samadhi chamber while he was alive therefore the word "sanjivan{".The whole process of the samadhi has been described by Saint Namdev who was a witness to this has written a series of Abhangas (a form of religious poetry )on the event
To add further about Dnyaneshwar Maharaj He had 2 brothers Nivruttinath who was elder to him & Sopan Dev the younger one & a younger sister muktabai. Both Nivruttinath & sopandev took Samadhi While it is described that Muktabai simply disappered into thin air(Some form of Samadhi)
Hi Kavitha, The ‘Hindus’ in general, because of say ‘slavery of time’ - having to deal with materials for performing actions in all aspects of day-to-day life all through their temporary existence on earth - appear to have believed in performing rituals, according to certain procedures believably laid down, say, as contained in Vedas etc., for different occasions and carried forth through long lost time by their predecessors…
On the other hand, the seeker might find conveyed through mythological stories etc. information, say, regarding Yogiraj Krishna the store-house of supreme knowledge, who believably doesn’t desire any material thing from His devotees. He apparently says anyone can reach Him irrespective of one’s caste, creed, sex etc, but must first surrender in Him (to attain overall knowledge, for all ‘wrong acts’ result from lack of it)!
And also Shiva is called Bholanath the Simple God, who apparently is the easiest among Gods to please by a devotee!
And Vedantis, like Adi Shankaracharya, reached the conclusion that human form itself is an image of the one and only Formless God - earth is a lie or 'mithya'!
Krishna says nothing is left in all the three worlds for Him to achieve!
Achievement associated with “Siddha Purush”, or ‘Siddhar’ as you have used, believably are ‘Ashta-siddhi’ and ‘Navanidhi’ that is expertise in eight fields/ control over eight directions and achievement of materials associated with nine members of the solar system, including planet Saturn that normally remains dormant. And, even among eight other planets average man believably has access only to the energy/ information related with the head or ‘sahasrara chakra’…and it is maximum only at the end of Satyuga, that is, the beginning of the 1.080 cycles of review by Bhootnath and minimum towards the end of the cycle, that is during Kaliyuga…
Poet Rahim expressed in essence the importance of role played even by small objects was expressed in his words to the effect, “Do not reject the smallest in comparision with the relatively bigger appearing. For where needle is needed, sword is useless.”
The same was expressed by ‘wise ancient Hindus’ by saying that God resides within all forms. Even in the story related with Lord Rama, all characters are indicated to play important roles, and the conclusion of the story that the superior most among men also can’t achieve the goal set before him/ her without the assistance of others who might appear to perform mean jobs…and hence the importance of the solar system/ seven colours that result in appearance of the multi-coloured rainbow! Dhruva apparently became thefixed star to guide humans. Similarly, all souls (without forms) attached to the ‘non-living’ even are indicated by the ‘wise’ to play the role of Guru to provide guidance to souls with forms…as reflected say in the stories associated with a valiant king, Vikramaditya, ie, ‘Betal Pachhisi’, the 25th story for which evn tehwise king didn’t have the answer indicating ever existing limitation of achievement in human form, ie, ‘perfection’ is only associated with Vishnu/ Shiva the Bhootnath…and therefore the sense of ‘inferiority complex’ is related with all humans as a natural characteristic…
“To err is human and to forgive divine.” And, judge not that ye be not judged…” Practice makes perfect."
Although there is a saying, “Half believe in what you see,” and on the other hand the Hindu belief conveys through use of word, ‘mithya jagat’ or an illusory world, human life being akin to a phenomenon like that of viewing a film on a ‘silver screen’ or TV/ PC monitor!
A seeker, therefore, has to repeat to oneself all the while that what he is at the given point in time seeing is only the truth of the past and, therefore, only a fiction or untruth in the present. In fact, as per the characteristic property indicated for ‘Kaliyuga’ the ‘Dark Age’, which is the remotest past, Time believably superposes the believable ‘present’ at a place, along with the ‘past’ as well as the ‘future’ reflected at other places at the same instant! That is, just as it is morning in ‘east’ when it is night in the ‘west’, one would find similar patterns in the inhabitants also. For example, ‘material development’ started gradually in the USA over the last few centuries, whereas the so-called planned material development in ‘India’ started on similar lines (carbon copy of it) only since 1951…But, with little time on hand, and therefore, the apparent hurry (and no time for thought of Hari/ Hara!) as we approach the still remoter part of Kaliyuga the Dark Age – the beginning of ‘churning of the milky ocean’!
However, when one is convinced that man is apparently being fooled thanks to his defective physical senses, one could then, to some extent, relax and enjoy the past of Bhootnath, just as one when old can only enjoy thoughts of his/ her past achievements within his head irrespective of his/ her locatin, and thus bask in the glory of one’s past!
The soul that believably has resided within a particular form, apparently even after it is separated from that form remains attached with it believably for about 12 days, which was considered inauspicious. And, ‘Hindus’, therefore, in order to break this attachment cremated their dead by burning the bodies. And, they attempted to wipe out any material residue of the body by immersing the resultant ashes in a flowing water body, preferably in Ganga waters. For Ganga is believed to be holy, being another form or image of Parvati the consort of Shiva, and therefore has the property to liberate one from the birth-death-rebirth cycle in physical form…Shiva Himself believably off and on enters into long duration ‘samadhi’, waking up from it only in the interest of continuity of life in earth! Samadhi was thus attempted by Yogis also to reach supreme knowledge…man believably being a model of the universe…This apparently gave ‘miraculous powers’ to the ‘sadhak’ tht is practitioner, such as disappearing from one place to reappear at another without anu external aid of material tool or flying machine…
In the ‘present’ that is Kaliyuga the Dark Age, this phenomenon of acquiring higher knowledge is found being practiced by some to attain solution to difficult problems. The concerned works physically hard on reaching the solution and then goes to sleep thinking about it. And, in many cases, it is observed that the solutions to such problems appear naturally into the head in the early mornings! And the ancient ‘Hindus’ believed total information stands already recorded within human form, but in eight chakras which could be retrieved only by Yogis by reaching zero thoughts, which is naturally reached for some time in deep sleep by everyone!
The ancient Hindus, obviously based on long term observations like a ‘scientist’, would have wondered at the natural ability of animals to recoup lost energy - in performance of a variety of actions from sunrise to sunset – during rest/ sleep.
They would have thus reached the conclusion about generalization of ‘truths’ as those that didn’t change with time. And would have thus perhaps thought of reaching the same state as that reached during rest by attempting to reach zero thought even during the day when they are in a conscious state. Maybe thus such characters who thereby, ‘accidentally’ perhaps, achieved extraordinary properties, such as, walking on water, would have initiated many more students or ‘shishyas’ into Yoga, that is union of and individual that is ‘1’, and infinity that is ‘8’ a multi-faceted personality through just ‘0’ thought - or 'samadhi'! And thus human being at some stage perhaps came to be represented by ‘108’ as a model of the unseen Creator...as reflected in 108 beads of a rosary…
And, Krishna apparently later came to be known as ‘Yogiraja’ the king of Yogis, for He was apparently born as a child prodigy believably destined to wipe out demons from ‘India’ that is Mahabharat the globe that is earth. Where, earth in indicated cryptically as Visha-dhar Shiva, (the believable holder of ‘halahal’ or ‘kalkoot’ the deadlist possible poison in His throat and, therfore, also called Neelkantha that is blue throated), the ‘true model’ of ‘anant’ (the celestial ‘visha-dhar’ or serpent that believably holds the earth on its hood, besides acting as Nadbindu Vishnu’s bed in the middle of the’kshirsagar’ the ‘milky ocean’, while our galaxy perhaps as the most evolved of all galaxies is known even today as ‘Milky Way Galaxy’) that is infinite universal void that is filled with innumerable numbers of galaxies…
And Shiva is known as Yogeshwar who tends to go into deep samadhis...
Joshi Uncle,
I want to reply to some of your comments, but am not getting the time for it at the moment.
Will reply in a while.

Kavitha
Hi Kavitha, “Hari anant/ Hari Katha ananta…” The ‘wise ancients’ have, in the above essence, conveyed the ‘Truth’ of the ‘untruths’ that is to say that every event will have possibility of existence of innumerable view-points - that is, “As many mouths, so many views’…
With the background essence of ‘wise Hindus’, “Satyam Shivam Sunderam,” as well as 'mithya jagat', and Shiva as Mahakal the Controller of time, ‘I’ have attempted to delve deeper into my head and attempt to reach at the essence as contained in the mythological stories etc. from different view-points. Maybe, someone else might have a view-point, which might already be expressed by some wiser person elsewhere and perhaps might explain the essence better…
‘I’ will gladly wait for your - or anyone else’s – comments!
***
As an example thereof, ‘I’ give below one of my reactions, without any prejudice towards any particular individual, sent with reference to an article that had appeared in ‘my newspaper’…
This refers to DEVIL’S ADVOCATE article Why not Rahul?
Some say that Sheikh Pir said, “Nam mein kya rakha hai.” And, Shakespeare said the same, citing also the characteristic fragrance of Rose as an example, and believably said, “What is there in a name…”
However, Indians being too inquisitive and therefore taking panga even with gods, it is said that Sheshappa Iyer said, “Nam mein Brahmand ka satva hai!”
He suggested North Indians Arjun Singh and Rahul baba to change their respective names (like wiser Jayalalithaa, a South Indian) and further elaborated it by saying, “Hindus know that Arjuna was a friend and follower of Krishna the Yogiraja as Guru of Pandavas (representing panchatatvas or bhootas of Bhootnath Shiva), and still didn’t fully know Him - because of relatively greater attachment with his kith and kin. He, therefore, forgot his dharma as a Kshatriya when battle with ‘demons’ became inevitable…and needed advise from his mentor to pep him up…
And, when ‘amrit’ or immortality was believably being granted to devtas (by Vishnu in the form of Mohini), Rahu the devil joined the devtas posing, through his exterior appearance as one of them (like a poker player),.. However, although a little bit late, he couldn’t fool the Sun (representing one extreme of energy, as ‘fire’ that is hot) and the Moon (the other extreme of ‘fire’, cold), the two of the real devtas who occupied the highest pedestal in the hierarchy…They helped Vishnu apply the last moment correction that resulted in Vishnu cutting away Rahu’s head, separating it from his lower body… The fractional dose of ‘amrit’ however resulted in existence of both Rahu the head and Ketu his lower body eternally…”
The idea of using code words always works on the minds of individuals when they put down some secrets in black and white. For example, it’s well known that different governments today apparently engage hackers to break into the computers of other government agencies to obtain secrets about their defence set-up etc…And, there are some who send viruses to damage the hardware itself, thus indicating that battle of Mahabharat is always on!
Krishna believably being mischievous He, therefore, apparently used characters that believably were ‘wiser’ although apparently in the ‘past’, through interesting mythological stories, conveyed to the ‘wise’ at any time in ‘future’ the apparently ‘higher truths’ hidden in those very words...For, the average young person in the ‘present’ - bogged down with the tasks and worries of the ‘present’ day-to-day works itself - read those for entertainment only during spare time and, therefore, perhaps could never have thought of these as conveying some secrets of ‘Nature’… which the believably primitive persons, belonging to ‘cave age’, had recorded long ago – and since then human race had made lot of progress!
The ‘ancient Hindus’, however, indicate the physical universe/ earth as illusory, which the ‘present day’ wise finds difficult to comprehend!
Hi there, I'm enjoying your blog and learning about such spiritual things. Though I'm American and not Hindu (my husband is though), I feel very connected to India and perhaps have an old Indian soul.
I look forward to learning and reading more of your thoughts and seeing more pictures!
It will help me to plan my next trip! Hopefully to Tamil Nadu.
Take care,
Shireena
Hi Shireena, ‘I’ take the liberty of thanking you on behalf of Kavitha too…
Visited your blog also and enjoyed your ‘masala tea’ and visit to the snowy peaks of Utah…and also enjoyed viewing a part of ‘India’ through your eyes!
Best wishes.
Continuing with the essence of the ‘Hindu concept’ of souls within forms, it is conveyed (say, as in Bhagavad Gita) that the real interior, a dot or a formless being called ‘soul’, (a part of the Supreme Being, Nadbindu or point source of ‘loud sound energy’ as the Formless Creator), remains covered by the unreal or illusory exterior till a certain duration as per a grand design…And that the cycle of transmigration of souls through innumerable animal life forms continues eternally, the secret of which is not fully made known to humans at any time (however, it is indicated that all souls are provided rest/ sleep, as in Samadhi, for some time when they could get merged with the Supreme Soul that alone is related with zero time and space)…
It is perhaps certain that the present day wise have apparently started seeking the truth only recently, a few centuries ago only, and therefore a lot still remains to be known about ‘Nature’…although one gets a feeling of having known all, because the total information is believably already recorded within each human form – and it’s only a question of retrieving it!
It is perhaps like having the desired word at the tip of the tongue only! Thus the tongue was believed to be the culprit! For spoken words can’t express a realization and ‘the taste of the pudding lies in eating it’!
The ancient ‘Hindus’ called God as Unborn, and made temples to house some particular deity according to their faith that was installed in the sanctum sanctorum, called ‘Garbha Griha’ that is ‘womb’. And, it is known that a human child remains confined for about 9 months in its mother’s womb and, for a certain period of time after its birth it uses its lips and tougue (that is installed within the cavern of its mouth) to identify different objects till its sense of touch gets passed on to the lower limbs…
Interestingly, snakes use smell to track their prey using its forked tongue, which believably gives the snake a sort of directional sense of smell and taste simultaneously as it keeps its tongue constantly in motion. It thus samples particles from the environment and analyzes the chemicals to determine the presence of prey or predators…
And Hindus symbolically depict apparently destructive energy in the form of molten magma at the core of earth, as a black-bodied female called Mother Kali – (who believably remains in the heart of Vishdhar Shiva the one who holds poison in His throat) – having a protruded tongue that is painted ‘Red’, a symbol that is used by the present day man as a ‘STOP’ sign – one out of the set of three colours in traffic lights, besides ‘Amber’ and ‘Green’ as signs of ‘PAUSE’ and ‘GO’ respectively, perhaps thus indirectly referring to Earth & its centre, and Moon…That for a ‘Hindu’ could be seen as the image of Ardhanarishwar, the Androgynous form of Adi Shiva, whose original abode is believed to be Varanasi that was Kashi, on the banks of Holy River Ganga…He, however, after the death of His first consort Sati in ‘sacred fire’ (that indicates an active volcano and its red tongue of fire), believably married Parvati the daughter of the Himalayas, who through its image River Ganga is associated with Gomukh, its believable origin - perhaps the ‘Perfect Cave’…
Joshi Uncle,Would like to know the exact reference on the use of lip & toungue by the new borns for the identification of objects.
Hi Dr Anilji, Although the physical senses are known to gradually develop in the foetus stage itself, perhaps from common observation also one can notice how the new-born learns first the use of its lips and tongue (apparatuses for touch and taste) as its first introduction to the ‘external world’. ‘I’ had long ago read an article, maybe over four decades ago when my first child was just born, a view-point by a child-specialist, who had indicated what ‘I’ had keyed down in ‘my’ referred comment.
Maybe Anilji you could throw more light on the subject…
‘I’ might add that Yogis/ Tantrics are believed to attempt reaching zero thought (virtually traveling to the stage prior to their conception in the womb) to attain certain extraordinary powers that are believably associated with the Supreme Soul, or highly elevated souls too…
In the Eighties only ‘I’ personally happened to come across some tantrics in the Northeast, because of my wife’s chronic illness and failure of Allopaths to cure her. And, as ‘I’ had elsewhere narrated in detail one of them predicted, though not exactly pin pointing ‘my father’s’ heart attack, about 15 days in advance, but he used instead a ‘relative’ who was apparently suffering from HBP!
‘I’ noticed some of them release mustard seeds from its pod on to the surface of water in a glass tumbler and apparently tried to see some soul (?). ‘I’ am forgetting how one of them used the tip of his tongue also while preparing an amulet (which also didn’t work anyway!)…
Holy Ganga - in a code language - is indicated in the stories to have descended from Moon on the surface of earth, via Gangadhar Shiva the Destroyer’s locks, for granting moksha to a large number of sons of a king. It was believably thanks to the valiant efforts of Bhagirath the grandson of King Sagar whose 60,000 (!) sons were burnt by Sage Kapila when they disturbed his Samadhi (like Shiva believably burnt Kamadev/ Bhasmasur)! Sage Vishwamitra believably had mischievously tied the white horse being used for ‘Aswamedha Yagya’ for expansion of the empire by the king in the premises of his hermitage!
The Hindu belief indicates one River Ganga each in all the three worlds. The one in the ‘sky’ is believably formed of stars and is called ‘Akash Ganga’ (the one on the surface acting as model of it). Whereas the one underground is called ‘Patal Ganga’, which obviously refers to the naturally filtered water that is found underground, as it is indicated also in the reported incident of Arjuna the expert archer in Dwaperyuga providing holy Ganga water for 'moksha' to Bhisma when he was lying on the bed formed of arrows shot by Arjuna in the battle field of Kurukshetra in River Yamuna valley!
In the recent devastating earthquake experienced in our neighbouring country China, it was only after the event taht people have recalled appearance of a large number of frogs from underground, or ‘patal’, on to a busy highway to save their lives almost a week prior to the actual appearance of the earthquake. And, it is supposed to be well known that certain animals can help predict earthquakes before it actually occurs. But no one took advantage of the phenomenon, perhaps because the government and indivudals are all more interested in material development at trhe cost of the spiritual, not only in China but elsewhere in the world too!
The above perhaps indicates the natural position as it would perhaps have existed at the beginning of Kaliyuga the Dark Age - with evolution of ‘Krishna’ the representative of Nadbindu Vishnu housed at the centre of our ‘Milky Way Galaxy’ to attain eventual perfection in the form of Gangadgar and Chandrashekahar Shiva apparently achieved at the end of Satyuga - in the mind of the Formless Creator, or Bhootnath Shiva, through the believable ‘churning of the Kshirsagar the Milky Ocan’!
The existence of various institutions on earth, from a school to a workshop to a madhouse, and so on, could perhaps have helped one to imagine earth as an all-in-one ‘bahuroopiya’ the multo-faceted character and not non-living…
Ancient Hindus saw it as Natraj Shiva with the forgetabe man, Apsmara Purush, under His foot - although an image of God Himself!
And, Krishna says all wrong acts are due to lack of knowledge (which is recorded within everyone)!
In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna believably got scared to see the real face of Vishnu (the Supreme or Virat form of Krishna) thanks to the ‘divine eyes’ or ‘divya-chakshu’ loaned to him by Krishna! For, Vishnu is generally believed to be a handsome divine person having four hands in which he holds ‘Shankh’ (conch-shell), ‘(Sudersan) Chakra’ (beautiful wheel or discuss), ‘Gada’ (Mace), and ‘Padma’ (Lotus flower) and instead Arjuna saw Him as a fearful person who had eyes and mouths in all directions, and in which demons were entering, with some of them stuck up between the teeth, and so on!
And today, we know that earth in reality was a ball of fire in the beginning that was the beginning of Kaliyuga. Therefore, the ‘Hindu mythology’ in code words explains the significance of ‘Maya’ that is illusion – ‘present day’ film-like projection of the events of the ‘past’, ‘present’ and ‘future’ at one time (Projection of all Yugas represented by different faces of the globe) - whereby the truth isn’t made evident to us, the ‘common man’…fire is seen only in ‘active volcanoes’!
And, to the ancient ‘wise Hindus’, who practiced to activate their ‘kundalini’ and thus make the entire recorded energy/ information reach their heads, Mars is indicated to have been realized as the ‘Lord of fire and War’. And, that its essence is housed locked up at the ‘mooladhar bandha/ chakra’ that is the basic essence related with the ninth and the double-colour ringed planet Saturn that reflects the sudershan-chakra-dhari Vishnu the Yogeshwar (the God of Yogis) of Hindu Mythology whose representative Krishna the mischievous, but Yogiraja (the King of the Yogis) believably is (and is thus apparently represented by the smaller, but similarly ringed planet, Jupiter…
As we have seen earlier, elsewhere also, Vishnu/ Krishna believably reclines in the West-East direction, the general direction in which the Himalayan Ranges trend and are considered as ‘Shakti-Peethas’ or ‘Centres of Energy’, as realized by the ancients and reflected in the form of Temples/ flags and such other symbols…And, His four hands indicated the four Cardinal Directions that also were believably associated with different planets of the solar system/ different colours, (Yellow the superior represents North, Red the East, White the South, and Blue the West), which believably represents the essence of the infinite universe, whose essences also go into the formation of the human structure…the compound colours/ energies formed by each of these four colours believably represented the four hands of Shiva, the two aspects of Trimurty Shiva thus account for the eight hands of Parvati (prototype of a spider the frail appearing but an expert web spinner, like ‘mayavi rakshashas’) were indicated as the cause of illusion, that gets referred in the stories frequently, each arm thus believably representing the planet that ruled one of the eight directions – represented symbolically by the figure of an elephant (Diggaj) which represent the elephant-headed Ganesha’s different aspects…
Parvati is generally referred in the stories as the mother of Her favourite elephant-headed son Ganesha, while Shiva’s favourite son Kartikeya is indicated as Her physically powerful right hand and it thus indicates the evolutionary processes in stages leading to appearance of hierarchy such that although all characters are playing important roles, but it is the time that reflects the status of evolution…the story of churning of the milky-ocean thus indicates the evolutionary processes as they occurred from zero to infinity, from the beginning of Kaliyuga to the end of Satyuga, when the planets or the devtas attained immortality…However, the time thereafter is indicated to be related with downward movement, ie, from beginning of Satyuga to the end of Kaliyuga, the zero time and space…
Maybe, with the above background, a seeker could visualize the significance of the story of Yogiraja Krishna the 8th and lucky child of Devki-Vasudeva, who alone believably escaped death, from the clutches of Kansa his maternal uncle (representing Yamdoot the messenger of Yama the devta of death/ Shiva the Destroyer/ Dharmaraja), whereas his 7 other siblings born prior to him couldn’t…and also the significance of ashta-chakra that believably are located within each human form, which is mortal – unless ‘kundalini’ gets activated and the total energy reaches just one point in the head, called ‘sahasrara chakra’ the source of 1,000 that is innumerable channels resulting in moksha to the soul (and thus also realize why Krishna in the Gita lays stress on the soul as the VIP)!
It is nice to know why they bury people considered to be siddhars. Until i read this post, i knew little of Siddhar Bogar. I am very much interested in knowing about Siddhars, they were masters of spirituality as well as capable of performing medical miracles by creating medicines using NAVAPASANA(A unique type of medicine created using nine types of poisons) and also NAVALOKA (Combination of 9 metals such as Iron, Copper, Gold, Mercury etc). Siddhars were supposed to have immense knowledge about diseases of the past, the present and the ones that would arise in the future. There have been a lot of siddhar inscriptions that contain medicine for now incurable diseases like Small pox and even AIDS. Unfortunately, most of their inscriptions were either destroyed by nature or were wasted by our stupid people, who let the palm leaves with inscriptions in the river. (In TAMIL NADU, there is a festival called AADI PADINATTU, on this day, tamilians used to drop their old belongings such as scriptures into the river considering it to be auspicious to their family).
Maybe if some person would throw light on the teachings of siddhars, this world may stand to benefit.
Hi Aswin Kini, You are correct in the sense when you believe man to be the original doer. However, the ‘wise ancients’ realized the real doership to rest with God (Bhootnath Shiva/ Vishnu the Yogeshwar) with man as one of various agents and Yogiraja Krishna, a ‘siddhar’/ ‘siddha purush’ as his closest representative (as for example discussed in Bhagavad Gita, which ‘I’ was fortunate to receive as gift during one of my farewells, and also lucky to read after 9 years of receiving it – and wondering why I didn’t read it earlier!)…
The ‘wise ancients believed the apparent happenings to follow some predetermined pattern as per the design of the Formless Creator, or Bhootnath Shiva’ that is God acting as Mahakal or controller of time (and related events associated with the concerned Yuga – and the present is believed to be past that is Kaliyuga, which in reality is the beginning of the churning of the milky ocean that is our Milky Way Galaxy that has a super Black Hole at its centre)…
