He presents Himself

He presents Himself in the light
of the oil lamp
and yet i see only the darkness

He presents Himself like
a full bloom lotus
and yet i miss the fragrance

He presents Himself in
the twinkling stars
and yet i miss the glow in His third eye

He presents Himself with
the crescent moon
and yet i miss the calm silence

He presents Himself in
a firey dance
and yet i miss the madness

He presents himself with
grace within my mind
and yet i miss the rhythm

He presents Himself in
the chilling air
and yet i miss His warmth

He presents His knowledge
within His stony self
and yet i miss the wisdom

He presents Himself in
all nothingness
and yet i miss His truth

He presents Himself with
me through out my life
and yet i miss his presence

He presents Himself with
me in all completeness
and yet i feel the emptiness

He presents Himself here
to save me from me
and yet i dont see the difference.

sublime thoughts

Kavitha~ You have used ‘i’ twelve times.
Does it reflect your ego?
Or, maybe, you unconsciously know that you are Him!
For, Shiva is known for His naivete,
And His indulgence in intoxicating materials*,
And, His companion ‘ghosts’ -
Presence/ absence of 'fire'
And associated light
That leads to illusion
And fear of one’s own shadows -
As in a dream or hallucination…
********************************
• A poet has said that he means intoxication
With the wine that brews in his own heart,
And not the one that makes one forget oneself!

As an afterthought, as an explanation I would like to add as footnote to the abovesaid:

‘Hindu’ philosophy of Vedanta essentially means existence of only the formless.
Therefore ‘I’ is Him while ‘i’ consciously stands for one of His infinite reflections or physical forms - all apparently imperfect (Aham in Sanskrit stands both for the 'first person' as well as for 'pride' so that one is ever conscious while uttering 'aham').

Question of imperfection does not arise when perfection exists (in the apparent form of the beautiful earth, and the infinite other physical forms that constitute the apparent unfathomable universe – perhaps to help Him reach His Own origin or His possible past ie, ‘bhoota’).

I was totally taken in by the last verse. How often we need that guidance! How easily we pass it by and fail to even acknowledge it. Great piece of thought Kavitha!

Kavitha~

Reference your email informing about the post, it is well known that ‘Health is wealth’ and ‘Prevention is better than cure’. So, please take care…

A historical figure and poet-queen, Mira Bai, reportedly remained unaffected even when she was administered poison - like the eternal mythological character, Shiva, reportedly held ‘halahal’ in His throat. Deeply influenced by the ‘Hindu philosophy’, she said to the effect, “Within the patient dwells the physician/ He only knows the cure.” And also, one realizes today that each individual is a unique system. Therefore, every individual, like Mira, primarily needs to have firm faith - which is generally lacking today for want of proper ‘early guidance’ or due to ‘time’ as per ancient ‘Hindu’ belief. Also one needs to be treated on his/ her own merit. Symptomatic treatment and generalization as practised today are perhaps at fault as these helps in creating ‘after-the-event-wise individuals’ only, who while on one hand continue to remain imperfect, on the other hand the different groups pull in different directions causing 'war on mind' of each individual.

Happiness being a state of mind, all ‘problems’ and ‘eccentrities’ - seen increasing in extent in the entire human race with time today - apparently are related with the ‘mind’, and ‘solutions’ thereto thus lie in application of common sense’ by all concerned.

Talking of wisdom, life ever remains a mystery. Jesus Christ like rare personalities even today aren’t ‘specialists’ trained in mult-milliion dollar Institutions and yet they are known to have, or reportedly have, ‘miraculous powers’ – even to cure variety of illnesses where prevalent systems apparently fail. These powers obviously flow from the ‘dark innerside’ of men as realized by the ancient ‘wise’. Maybe that’s why the owl was called ‘wise’ because out of the innumerable life forms perhaps it alone can see in rhe dark:-)

hi kavi!long time no see, not hear! loved the poem. captured the eternal search for god rather well. shows that the state of consciousness has to go beyond the self to realize his presence. beautifully expressed.

Hi,
This poem depicts the amount you have embraced Shiva?

I see something a little more than that.
Maybe my thought is skewed a bit. But you seem to be leaving a Question. Like you are asking Him something.

Correct me if I am wrong.

PS: I love the part "He presents Himself in a firey dance and yet i miss the madness". I can really feel the intensity of his dance.

This is a tough one, I have come across Ravana's devotional songs towards Lord Shiva, but I have not come across any specific reference towards a specific mantras he recited during his penance.

Most probably it would be mrityunjaya, panchakshara, or rudram...
