Abhaya - Fear not! The Lone Message of Shiva Nataraja

Fear not!
The hand stays still promising peace and tranquility in ones life when the Bhakta submits to
the great Lord.

Fear not!
For this is when the Bhakta surrenders.

Fear not!
It is the single thought that echoes in the mind when one stares up to the Lord in humility.

Fear not!
Rings the thunderous sounds of creation as the damaru vibrates in the static air

Fear not!
Burns the fire of destruction as it eats into my being and destroys my ego, my past, my
karma

Fear not!
Stands the beautiful snake upright with a jewelled forehead graceful and alert

Fear not!
Is the feeling of freedom and bliss when I hear the sound of mantras echo within the temple
walls

Fear not!
Is the feeling of awakening mysticism as I watch the great Lord raise his feet in Tandava

Fear not!
Are the words heard as my heart melts in his being and I look on to savor the beauty of his being

Fear not!
Is the joy in my heart as I stand back and wonder about this magical world of grace that is so subtle, so alive, so secretive, so true

Fear not!
Is the feeling of tranquility that descends on me even during the times when I am very
troubled

Fear not!
The grace in that mudra is the source of courage to want to face life no matter how tough it gets

Fear not!
Is the detachment I feel from all my myseries, no matter how deep and intense they are

Fear not!
Is the only solution to my earthly problems

Fear not!
Is pure love that I feel towards the Lord hoping that he will release me from this bondage

Fear not!
Triggers the feeling of envy as I stare up and look at that form of Apasmara that is blessed to have the Lord dance on his back

Fear not!
Is the aura of divinity I see on the Lord's face as he blesses me in silence

The form of Nataraja, the vigor in his body, the grace in his being and the bliss that he grants us to observe him dance can be an unforgetable experience when we realize the value of this performance. He has danced to the pleasure of his devotees in 4 sabhas across south india. He danced for them to see with rapture, the life that erupts from within. He has danced to bring home a point, that which we in mundane terms call the dance of bliss and destruciton but we have no idea of its intensity.

What is this dance, what is this vigor, what is this grace and what is this energy that defines in silent language the very power of opening the 3rd eye, the charm of the Ganges, the stance of gajasura shiva? This leaves me dancing within my heart to have just felt his presence around me as he stands there in bronze within the shrine chamber decked in flowers!

I look up to him and wonder, even apasmara purusha felt his dance, felt the force and has the blessing of the Lord forever standing on his back. Yet my heart aches and I struggle to get this divine glimpse of the Lord.

'I' am that 'apsmara purush', that is, the 'forgettable man' who is unable to realise that 'I' myself am the tortoise the 'kurma' who believably supports Shiva, that is, Earth! And that 'I' don't exist in the 'present' for 'I' in reality am the Supreme Soul and, therefore, If 'I' am afraid, it's in reality a bad dream Shiva the Natraja had when He wasn't yet fully evolved!

'I' am told that 'I', apparently a mortal, am an (untrue?) image of God the immortal being. And, therefore, it is because of my apparent 'temporary physical form' and inefficient physical senses, besides the normally dormant 'sixth sense' or ESP due to lack of awareness, that even after passing through over 8.4 million forms 'I' have ever remained ignorant of the 'Absolute Truth'. That is, existence only of the Formless Bhootnath Shiva that 'I' in reality am...And that it is only an 'enlightened yogi' in the unending chain, say like 'Yogiraja Krishna' at a given point in time, who could realise it and also confidently tell the whole world that he himself is Shiva the immortal, which other 'life forms' are unable to do so because of 'maya', that is, illusion - on account of projection of apparent hierarchy in the physical world/ universe as part of a grand design!

For an 'enlightened Yogi', the central nervous system is the Holy River Ganga, in which 'fire' or energy flows upwards (like life-giving water to evolved life forms on earth surface - in clouds from saline water in the seas) or downwards (from 'sky' to 'earth' and back to 'water' in the seas)...while the sympathetic nervous systems, similarly, represent the Rivers Yamuna and the Brahmaputra...the trio representing the immortal Saraswati the Goddess of Knowledge (as per 'Hindus') and consort of Brahma the Creator...

And, even in the 'present' or Kaliyuga one might also see this UP/ DN movement of energy being represented by the network of Railway Trains also...say, for example, the typical service between Howrah Stn [Calcutta, that is, Kolkata reflecting Ma Kali who resides in Shiva's heart] and Kalka Stn [on the foot-hills of Shimla the capital of Himachal Pradesh the abode of Ma Durga (the word derived from 'durg', meaning 'a fort'), that is, Parvati the daughter of Himalaya and the physical consort of Shiva, a form of Kali/ Sati ('Shakti' or energy) Herself!

Maybe, 'I' should also add that the ancient 'wise Hindus', the advanced astronomers cum astrologers, realised the human form, like the colours in a rainbow, to be made up of seven essences or 'rasas', each associated with some particular member of our solar system..And, the nerves in human body are indicated associated with the beautiful ring-planet Saturn (Suryaputra Shani, that is son of Sun, to the 'Hindus')...whereas the brain or 'Sahasrara chakra' in human head is believed to house the essence of Moon, 'Indu', that's also now known to have evolved from Earth itself ('Ardhangini' or 'better half' of Shiva, that is Parvati to 'Hindus')...while 'Mooladhar chakra' at the tail-bone end is believed to house the essence of planet Mars, or 'Mangal Graha' (Ganesha, the favourite son of Ma Parvati)...

The yogic exercises were developed by the ancient Hindus with the sole purpose of making total energy to reach the head, or 'sahasrara chakra', the permanent abode of immortal Shiva-Paravti at Kailash-Mansarovar (the mind or 'man' symbolically depicting the Lake the perennial source of life-giving water to 'Indians'...

Thank you, I found the comments section. The living water is the gift of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. Those who drink this spiritual water have eternal life. It is by trusting in Jesus Christ as the Savior that you may drink of it. The following history of Jesus at the well in Samaria may help:

"A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, Give me to drink. (For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.) Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, How do you, being a Jew, ask a drink of me, who am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews do not associate with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, Give Me to drink, you would have asked of Him, and He would have given you living water. The woman said to Him, Sir, you have no vessel, and the well is deep. From where then do you have that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, and his children and his cattle? Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water shall thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst, but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
(from the Bible, John 4:7-14. Please see the context for the rest of the conversation.)

To see it explained a little further, please see http://www.larkandraven.com/2009/04/eternal-life.html and http://www.larkandraven.com/2009/03/save-your-soul.html. I will be happy to answer any further questions. -A. H. Phillips

Just to add to my last comment... From my personal experience, I have come to personally know the Son of God. It happened for me when I was reading the New Testament of the Bible. I read first-hand of the amazing miracles of Jesus and knew he was greater than any guru I had heard of. Also, his teachings of love, life, and the afterlife shocked me and drew me at the same time. I came to realize that God cares very much how we think and behave toward others. He has expectations of how we are to live. I had to surrender my will and choose to obey him. I believed in Jesus with my whole heart from that time 20 years ago. He has led me and strengthened me ever since.

Thanks Mr A.H.Phillis for the kind thoughts as contained in the write ups indicated by you. 'I' am glad that Jesus has inspired you and you find strengthened by him, just as 'I' was similarly inspired by Krishna three decades ago!

Wish you and all other brother Christians all the best.

:) Wow, that is an experience of spiritualism. To feel and love the chosen "God", surrender and obey their principles to lead a disciplined life...isnt this what faith is all about.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

With the background belief of Shiva the Ardhanarishwar (Shiva-Sati) originally evolving from Varanasi (Kashi) on the banks of Holy River Ganga till He attained perfection (as Shiva-Parvati and come to reside at Kailash-Mansarovar the origin of the 'Triveni' - of Ganga-Yamuna-Brahmaputra; or Earth-Moon, the 'binary system'), 'I' feel that perhaps 'ancient Hindus' had apparently done greater in-depth studies in search of the various 'Truths' as well as the 'Absolute Truth'...

However, 'Hindu' mythological stories today are taken on their face value by the majority of the 'born Hindus', perhaps for entertainment/ criticism only (because of inferiority complex) and not with a view to reading those between the lines and then interpret the intended communication with the present day knowledge attained by the human race, which obviously can be realised as still needing a lot of time to reach the intended goal, the origin of the universe...

Kavitha, Maybe in the previous comment 'I' should have said the 'Triveni' of Ganga, ie, Ganga-Yamuna-Saraswati, in the beginning, out of which Saraswati, the consort of Brahma, believably went underground while its place was taken up by the presently existing Brahmaputra, literally the son of Brahma, like a powerful but wayward child that eventually joins Ganga the Mother of mothers, the source of all waters, before it drains into the Bay of Bengal...And the belief that Ganga descended from Moon, (with the knowledge that it evolved from earth itself), and that Parvati was yet another form of the original consort of Shiva, Sati ('shakti' or energy/ Ma Kali who resides at the heart of Shiva) indicates the centre of earth itself as the origin of the universe...as it is also indicated by the ancient 'Hindu' greatly advanced astronomers...

Everyone, even an 'inferior animal', is known now to see dreams when asleep! This phenomenon must be thanks to an advanced technology that perhaps exists right from the first day of 'creation'.

However, the phenomenon has apparently, knowingly or unknowingly or/ rather naturally, inspired humans also til it got reflected apparently since last few centuries only with the advent of cinema. Thus making it possible to provide cheap entertainment to the 'common man' - by numerous other humans concerned with the make-believe world - in order to provide a means for forgetting for some time at least the otherwise tedious and painful and therefore fearful day-to-day human life...

However, the 'wise ancients', through various other means, have also tried to communicate to the common man the presence of the omnipotent and omnipresent Supreme Being (believed as unborn and unending) responsible for the apparent drama and, therefore, no need to be afraid at any time, for a component of the immortal soul resides within each physical form...

However, as part of the 'grand design' perhaps, one is forced to see 'outwards', and not 'inwards'. This is conveyed through the story of Brahma, a part of the Trimurty Himself, even reportedly growing panicky, being unconscious of the 'Truth' and, therefore, growing panicky on seeing the demons growing bigger and about to grab him! He was relieved when at the proper moment Lord Vishnu grabbed them with His long hands, just as one feels when one wakes up after a bad dream!

The 'wise HIndus' realised our solar system as an individual - and the different members of the system as its 'vital organs' - they called 'Mahashiva, while Earth was called 'Shiva' the opposite of 'visha' that is poison it holds as pollution since ages, and thus conveying Shiva or Earth, and the solar system, that is, Mahashiva all as immortal, just as the infinite void of the universe that continues to remain alive and thus growing indefinitely since time immemorial...

However, even the 'wise ancients' apparently couldn't guess the purpose of the Supreme Being in reviewing His Own Stories or History...

'Astrophysicists' today inform us how our Sun (Brahma, ie, one of the three-in-one God to ancient 'Hindus') is merely a fire-ball that has a core of Hydrogen gas (one of the components, besides Oxygen, of life-giving water) that's undergoing fusion in its nucleus, an exothermic and a chain reaction, since over 4 billion years of our solar system that results in the flares from our Sun thousands of kilometres into space from the surface of the inert Helium gas in the outer shell of the sun...And also in recent times thanks to probes sent from earth, it is learnt that the sound that issues from the sun resembles the sound of a harp!

Maybe from the above, with the background knowledge that sunrays issuing out in all directions from the sun is white, a 'seeker' could realise why ancient Hindus represented the Goddess of Knowledge, Saraswati the consort of Brahma, draped in a white Sari and having a stringed-instrument, Veena, in Her hands...and also why 'Shwetamber' (meaning the one who wears white garment) Jain Munis cover their body with a white garment...and why even English Cricket Team in recent times adopted white dress, whereas Penguins, as well as advocates (who are engaged for knowing the 'truth'), as if copying the black and white, or lighted and dark areas of earth, adopted that combination of colours...which also got reflected in the earlier photographs/ TVs too! And the wise ancient Hindus realised man as model of the universe...and one knows tht models help one to realise the prototype...and thus man could help one realise God...

To visualise ancient 'Hindu thoughts', obviously one would need to attempt entering their minds and imagine nine members of our solar system (Navgrah) from Sun to Saturn as vital organs of the system, in which the combination, or pair, of earth-moon are provided the highest pedestal, that the yogis termed as Ajna Chakra (at Shiva's 'third eye' level) and Sahasrara Chakra at the top-most level of head that is brain (where a crescent of moon is depicted on Shiva's forehead)...Mars is indicated as the base, the seat, or 'Mooladhar' at the tail-bone end, or the number one individual, Ganesha the favourite son of Parvati (Moon) - whose head was cut by Saturn (related with nerves in the human form) and elephant's head regrafted in its place by Shiva - for the ancient 'Hindus'...

The above could perhaps help realise the revised order of planets that go into the model, the human form, as Mars-Asteroids; Jupiter-Sun; Mercury-Venus; and Earth-Moon, where Venus finds location in the human throat as indicated by the Hindu mythological stories, which indicate Kartikeya (believed housed in Mahashiva's blue throat having had to drink 'halahal' the deadliest poison), the favourite son of Shiva as the 'skandh' (meaning shoulder) or right hand of his mother and the Commander of the army of 'devtas' whose duty, together with Ganesha, it was to act on behalf of Shiva-Parvati (Earth-Moon) after 'their retirement from active service'...
