The churning of my ocean

I live in the ocean of life,
deep refreshing blue waters of life.
On a steady hill of order,
resting on the back of society,
of culture, tradition and faith.
I stay here and try to find
My complete truth i call within myself
while my demons and my angels
fight a deadly tug of war within my very mind.

I pray to you O Lord Vishnu
give me the stability i need
within my sphere of my people,
my feelings, my role in life
He protects me like a giant tortoise
giving me nothing more to fear.
I try hard to go within myself,
while my emotions swing like a serpent
As i perform within my life
my wheel of karma.

I grow, i churn, i evolve
extracting myself from myself
as i pour forth all poison
and negate all negative thoughts
within my being.
i suffer, i writhe in pain
as my emotions and my thought torment
while the world outside complains
on me being really me.

And while i grow and churn myself
O Lord Shiva help me so
Let not my poison affect
these beautiful waters of life.
He comes and takes my poison,
swallows it within Himself to help me grow,
to help me see while he saves the world from me

I dive deep into thought
i dive deep into action
i dive deep into myself
to extract the beauty within.
I glow, i am blessed
with the grace of the Lord
as i shine forth to all around me.
giving them in sweet words
the true nectar of life.

and to that very society i return
with true faith and virtue in sweet words i recite
the beauty of the Lord within.
I might live on, i might die
it does not matter no more
for i have seen my beauty within hidden,
deep within my being.

My ocean of nectar flows to the Mother
who gave me this new birth.
I worship you O Mother
You who protect me all through
You have brought me to myself face to face,
you have shown me who i am
i no not exist i do not live
i am but a speck of dust
forever at your lotus feet.

Churning of the 'milky ocean' to the ancients meant the 'Mahabharata war' that goes on in the minds of human beings, which, after 'tapasya' or 'heating', makes the 'essence' or cream to rise to the top, i.e., the activation of the 'Kundalini'...

I further give below my reaction to views on Neuroscientists Vs the Dalai Lama in a newspaper:

“Man is known by the company he keeps”, was proved by the reported finding of ‘Ramu the wolf boy’ a few years ago - who only howled like a wolf - the lesson forgotten even within short time… Human brain is marvelous and yet it is like ‘a sword in the hand of a monkey’ today (vide ‘Panchtantra’)… The unspoken words of the ‘Panchabhootas’, despite Tsunamis, Hurricanes, earthquakes, and so on, are drowned in the howl of the present day man who egoistically believes himself superior to ‘Nature’…

To the ancient ‘wise’ men or Yogis, meditation meant reaching the ‘Zero’, the ‘dot’ that rests in zero time & (dark) space. The Truth the ‘scientists’ seek is like the needle that was lost in a dark place. Wouldn’t it therefore be foolish if one seeks it only where there is light, the ‘material’ side?

The mighty USA is seen surrendering before ‘Sudershan Chakra-like’ Ma Katrina, Ma Rita, Ma Wilma, and so on. In a way it is the demonical way of surrender to Krishna whereas the ‘wise’ ancients suggested surrender to 'Krishna the Absolute Knowledge' that apparently is still very distant from present day ‘Scientists’ who do not believe in Yoga or union of the so- called ‘material’ and the ‘spiritual’…

“Tamso ma jyotirgamaya/ Asato ma sadgamaya/ Mrityor ma amritamgamaya”, i.e., “Lead the kindly light, etc”, prayed the ‘wise’ ancients based on knowledge and ultimate realization of a single formless Creator responsible for the illusory physical forms of the universe or ‘Brahmand’ the Creator’s egg! Anyway, let us, i.e., Him, enjoy the fooling as long as it lasts!

Wow, Kavi that was a great poem... simply awesome.

I still remember you telling me those lines... never knew that one day those very lines are going to be a poem...

loved it. really loved. man, you are evolving. i love it.

As I have understood it with my ‘manas manthan’ or ‘churning of the mind’ is that the whole drama as per ‘Hindu’ belief is about innumerable souls, as parts of one Supreme Soul, acquiring temporary – soap bubble/ characters-in-dream like - physical forms with hierarchy, ranging from minus infinity to plus infinity. And, exhibiting different characteristics related with form and apparent space and time and being placed in various categories by man, the superior most ‘image of Creator’, because of ‘Maya’ that is illusion…

With the above as the background, it was said by the realized souls, or the Yogis, i.e., ancient scientists - who, like Rama in Treta yuga ‘broke Vishnu’s bow’ or as Arjuna in Dwaper yuga penetrated the ‘chakravyuha’, i.e., ‘the paper walls of day-to-day existence’- that Vishnu is Shiva and Shiva is Vishnu, where Vishnu represents the formless and Shiva His physical form or 'image'…

Hi Kavitha:
This is indeed a great poem I have
read in the recent years.

You are correct, nothing in Indian mythology is mere story telling. It has deep philosophical significance. You are doing a great job through this blog and this poem. You are indeed evolving spiritually as I can see. Keep us inspired with more such thoughts.

Hi there kavitha, I was just cruising the blogosphere searching for the latest information on religious art and came across this great blog. Although The churning of my ocean wasn’t quite what I was looking for, it has excellent articles. I see now why I found your page when I was looking for religious art related topics. I’m glad I stop by, keep up the good work.

A very beautiful poem! A rare expression of grace, humility, and divine invocation amidst a profound inner struggle! All placed quite wonderfully in context of Indian mythology! Really enjoyed reading something meaningful after a long time!

After I read the poem, I realised I was in a silence for quite sometime.
To me it was not just a beautiful poem. It was evolution unweaving itself.

It was far more intense than you had described.
